Literacy Class - Poetry

Over the last 2 weeks, our literacy class have been reading and writing poems. We have read bout poems to do with the war, linking to our inquiries about technology in WW1. This week we have been reading and analysing a poem by Selina Tusitala Marsh called 'Afakasi Chameleon.

We chose this poem because it links in with Samoan Language week. Our learning intention: WALT - analyse the language features used in poems.
We analysed the poem in small groups, then shared with the class the language features we came up with and our understanding of what the poem was about.

Here is an example of our completed task (By Aaron Khan) - a chameleon (a visual representation of our culture), and a poem to describe our culture, ancestors and family.

How to be Cyber Smart

Today we have been learning about ways we can be cybersmart. Ms Kyla shared a video clip with our class about how spaghetti grew on trees and what to do when it was time to harvest them. Now of course, we all knew spaghetti doesn't grow on trees. So we asked ourselves, how can we check if the information we are watching on the clip is valid? Here are some cybersmart tips we came up with.

Zeal Zone - week 3

Every Friday, Team 5 split up into groups for our Zeal Zone time. This consists of 5 different activities surrounding our inquiry into WW1. Here are some students work looking at the soldiers who went to war. We learnt about what kind of equipment they were required to carry, the conditions of the trenches and also how they trained to be fit for war.

Students are then required to come up with a chant to share what they have learnt about the soldiers. Well done so far to all groups from weeks 1, 2 and 3. Check back next week when we report on another group from our Zeal Zone activities!
